Lesson Kits "To Go" for Grades K-2
We are offering “to go” educational kits for grades K-2. They contain everything you need to hold an enriching water science lesson, while meeting SOL standards. These kits are available on loan and can be delivered right to your school! When you are finished teaching your lesson, we will arrange to pick them up. We request that these kits are checked out no longer than one week to allow access for other schools. Contact us for more information or Sign Up to reserve your kit .
Available programs:
Kindergarten- Discovering Water
Students will recall how they use water in their everyday lives and where that water is found. Students will also investigate water as it changes between all three phases and explore how both slow and fast temperature changes take place to cause those changes.
Kindergarten – Sink or Float
Students review and apply their knowledge of the properties and phases of water including that water flows downhill. By scientific investigation, students make predictions about whether certain items will sink or float based upon their prior observations and gathered evidence.
1st – Mix it Up
The student will investigate and understand how different common materials interact with water. Students will explore how some liquids will separate when mixed with water, but others will not; some solids will dissolve in water, but others will not; and some substances will dissolve more readily in hot water than in cold water.
2nd – Water Matters
Students apply their knowledge of the phases of matter to water in order to investigate how water changes between solid, liquid, and gas. They make observations and predictions based upon water’s structure. Students will make connections between the phases of water, heat energy, and the water cycle by using grade level scientific methods.
Self-led field trips to Carvins Cove Reservoir are also available free of charge. Learn more here.
