Floatation
Sludge from the secondary clarifiers undergoes a thickening process in the floatation thickener. This sludge is generally less dense and less apt to settle and thicken by gravitational thickening processes. Air is pumped into the floatation tank to mix with the sludge and bring the solids to the surface. Flights skim the sludge off the surface to be transported to the digesters for further treatment.
