Converting Used Haulers Into Dump Trucks Offers the Western Virginia Water Authority Quality and Value

    Tuesday, December 19, 2006

ROANOKE, VA – Through a sealed bid process, the Western Virginia Water Authority (Authority) has purchased four (4) dump trucks converted from over-the-road haulers from Atkinson Truck Sales of Chatham, Virginia.

Because the Authority needed heavy-duty vehicles that would not be driven many miles in a year, buying used made sense from an environmental and monetary standpoint. Atkinson Truck Sales was able to take Volvo over-the-road haulers and retrofit them into dump trucks to the Authority’s 15-foot bed and dump body specifications. The steel dump bodies and hydraulic telescopic hoists on these trucks are new equipment. By purchasing used trucks rebuilt to our specifications, the Authority was able to save in excess of $100,000.

The Authority will continue to look for opportunities and applications where used vehicles make sense.
