September 13, 2006
The Town Council of the Town of Fincastle, Virginia, has approved a 3-year contract with the Western Virginia Water Authority for the operation of the Town’s Water and Wastewater Systems starting on October 1, 2006.
The contract is subject to approval by the Board of Directors of the Water Authority at its regular meeting on September 21.
“We were very pleased with the response to our Request for Proposals,” said the Town Mayor, Scott Critzer. “We had a good selection of services, and we believe we have selected the contract operator that will provide the Town the best value and service.”
“This is a significant step for the Water Authority,” said Mike McEvoy, the Authority’s designated representative. “We are pleased and proud to have been selected.”
The Town’s Water System consists of two wells with chlorine disinfection, a 100,000 gallon storage tank, and a distribution system with approximately 310 customer meters, 37 fire hydrants and 59 water main valves. The 75,000 gallon-per-day aerated lagoon Wastewater Treatment System is in the process of being upgraded to a two-train Bio Wheel system scheduled to become operational February 15, 2007.
While the Water Authority will operate the systems, the Town will continue to manage the billing. Town of Fincastle citizens who have operational issues will be able to contact the Water Authority at 853-5700.
