Construction to begin the week of Monday, July 2, 2007 on Orange Avenue Waterline Rehabilitation Project

    Tuesday, June 26, 2007

The Western Virginia Water Authority has authorized construction to rehabilitate approximately 3,000 feet of existing 12-inch cast iron water main in the median of Orange Avenue NE between 13th Street and 20th Street beginning the week of Monday, July 2, 2007. This project is expected to take approximately three months and will rehabilitate a water main that has experienced frequent breaks in the past year.

Through a competitive bid process, the Water Authority awarded the construction of this job to E. C. Pace Company. The relatively low number of service connections to the existing water main will allow the contractor to use a trenchless construction technique called pipe bursting, a process that involves pulling a new pipe through the existing pipe. This approach will minimize costly and time-consuming excavation work in this high-traffic area.

Although all efforts will be taken to minimize traffic disruptions, commuters traveling through this corridor of Orange Avenue may experience single-lane closures during the hours of 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-5 a.m. during the construction period. Customers in the area should experience minimal disruption in their water service as alternate connections will be utilized during construction.
