Two Roanoke Winners in VA-MD-DC Equipment Rodeo

Water Authority employees Sam Vann and Mike Mills each brought home awards from the American Public Works Association VA-MD-DC Chapter, 47th Annual Conference and Equipment Show in Hampton, Virginia. Sam Vann and Mike Mills, who work in the Water Authority’s Utility Line Services Division, attended the conference on May 10 and 11, during which they participated in the equipment rodeo, a contest to demonstrate skill at using heavy equipment such as is used by many Water Authority employees. Sam competed in the backhoe event, against 30 competitors from Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Sam placed second, with a time of one minute and 36 seconds. Mike competed in the front-end loader event, against 30 other competitors from both states and the District of Columbia. Mike’s time was also one minute and 36 seconds, and he placed third. Mr. Mills says, “The best thing about the event was for us to be able to compete at this level and bring something back to the Authority."

At its May 19 meeting, the Western Virginia Water Authority Board of Directors passed a resolution honoring Mr. Vann’s and Mr. Mill’s accomplishments. The Water Authority is proud of the skill demonstrated by these two employees, and of all of its employees who work hard every day to provide Roanoke Valley residents with high quality drinking water and wastewater treatment service.
